Why Choose a Natural Swimming Pond?
Natural swimming ponds aren’t just beautiful! They’re healthier, safer, and smarter than traditional pools. Here’s why so many families are choosing to swim the natural way:
What Makes Us Unique, and the Standout No.1 Swimming Pond Company
Safety First
Are you tired of the same old traditional swimming pools?
Have you ever considered a swimming pond?
The following is from Caroline Murray BSc Hons, FCIM, who is a Bio chemist and Microbiologist. This is what she had to say about swimming in her swimming pond we built for her;
“What ever people say about the health benefits of swimming, it goes over and above that because of the quality of the water. SO different to swimming in chemically treated water, its literally like swimming in SILK, you go in and come out and you’re not thinking I need to get chlorine off my skin, or my skin is dry”
They’ve been around in the UK for over 30 years and have been a popular choice in Europe and America. Personally, I’ve always been drawn to the idea of a swimming pond. It’s a natural alternative to the typical tiled and heated swimming pool. With a swimming pond, you can immerse yourself in nature, swim alongside wildlife, and enjoy a beautiful natural landscape. Plus, there are no chemicals involved!
I know what you’re thinking – won’t the water be too cold?
Well, in the winter months, the water temperature can drop to 4c, but in the summer, it can reach a balmy 29c.
Most people in the UK can comfortably swim in a swimming pond from April to November. And let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of swimming in fresh, clear water. It leaves you feeling rejuvenated and fresh, without the itchy skin caused by chlorine.
On February 22nd 2024 Michael interviewed Caroline Murray BSc Hons, FCIM.
The purpose of this was to discuss the potential risks in swimming in swimming ponds, with somebody who understand this from a scientific stand point. Caroline understands the risks and how our system mitigates those risks and is why she chose us.
Caroline is a biochemist and microbiologist, having completed her first degree at Queen Mary College, University of London. Since then, she has become a leading market specialist in pharmaceutical consultancy with over 25 years’ experience working in Pharmaceutical and Biotech with companies such as Novartis, BMS and Sanofi, to name a few.
We as a company have worked very diligently in creating a multi-faceted system which covers all the areas in having a well-balanced pond which is safe to swim in. When Michael Asked;
“When you look at our system as a whole, do you think we have put anything in as a gimmick or just because it sounds cool, or does it have an actual purpose?”
“Yes absolutely, the combination of elements all solves (Michael Wheat System) a scientific issue. If you just had one of the parts of that system, my feeling is it wouldn’t work. I remember doing my research on swimponds, it took me 4 or 5 years before I had made up the decision to have the pond installed. I was just not convinced that just the aquatic plants would be enough. I think that’s why we have been on this journey for a number of years because YOU are only now at the point with your system where EACH part of your set up addresses the scientific problem of safe water.”
So microbial growth, micro organisms that shouldn’t be there, that you don’t want are removed.
The system keeps the ones that you do want and gets the water back to that eco system and ecological balance.
I think that’s what help me make my decision. This system was the way to go!”
Please see the whole podcast video recording below. We discuss the following topics;
- Different types of bacterial risks in a swimming pond
- How to help prevent risks
- How our system is different to how other swimming ponds are built globally
- Comparing the risks to swimming in one of our swimming ponds against a chlorine swimming pool
- Chlorine long term risks
- Regulations around swimming ponds
- Why she chose us to build her swimming pond
Design plan process
We create swimming ponds that are bespoke to you.
Our designers use technical drawings to plan every detail down to the last pebble and plant, to make sure everything is perfect for you.
If you put your trust in our fantastic team of experts – this is what you’ll get:
When you enquire about your project, you’ll get a copy of our full design plan, which explains in detail, our whole process.
Then our expert consultants speak to you to find out exactly how you want your pond to look…
Factoring in things like:
• How much you want to invest
• The layout of your garden (our site surveyors will visit you to conduct a survey)
• What water and landscape features you might want
• And estimating a time-frame that best fits your schedule
And that all sounds great, right?
But what if you don’t like the design?
Well, most important of all, if you don’t like any aspect of it, we keep working until it’s perfect.
Any kind of pond will be a major change to your garden and its landscape.
And you wouldn’t build an extension to your home without designing and planning it first.
A swimming pond is no different. We want to make sure the pond we build and your dream pond are the same.
You won’t have to leave anything to doubt, through our 2D and 3D renderings and first-class customer service.
With our specialist team working on your project, by the end you’ll have a Swimming pond you can enjoy year-round.
To work with our team, your design investment for a Swimpond project would be £1,997.
Now, we don’t just build swimming ponds. We design them exactly to your design brief and the practicalities of your site. Whether it’s a natural or formal design, we plan every detail down to the last pebble.
Here’s what we’ll do for you…

Installation
How long will I have to wait to get my swimming pond built?
This is the truly exciting part…….
Get the process started now by calling one of our team and we could be onsite within 3-6 months.
Other companies are building one at a time and are booked up over a year in advance.
We build 2 or 3 swimming ponds a month. This is because the company is set up to manage and organise multiple projects. Once you get hold of our design plan you’ll see exactly how we do this.
And that’s not even the best bit……..
Everyone else is quoting starting prices from £125,000+, we do projects of this value and much bigger, but we also can start from £75,000 including VAT without the ground works.
And…..
Even better…..
Our swimming ponds are fully filtered so no waiting around years for the balance to be correct and the water to be clear!
How can our projects be more cost effective but be the best product on the market?
I understand why people may ask this. I understand why someone would be skeptical. You want the Rolls Royce of swimming ponds so why does it cost less. The answer is HOW they’re built.
As a company, our builds are completed more quickly due to the reduced groundwork and labour needed to construct our swimming ponds. We don’t need huge regeneration beds which frankly become a breeding zone for silt and anaerobic bacteria.
Because of our system, we manage the pond from the outside where it’s easy to maintain and look after. And does not require to be rebuilt after 10 to 15 years.
So all this means;
- Less build time
- Less time of us in your garden
- Less maintenance and far easier to maintain.
- Less cost to you
- Longer lasting investment.
This has been achieved with lots of research and development. We are now very proud of our Michael Wheat System and how its changing the industry to create SAFER swimming ponds for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need planning permission for a swimming pond?
You will need planning approval if your home is listed, if you wish to construct on agricultural land, or if you live in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
2. Can you convert an existing swimming pool or pond into a swimming pond?
Yes you can. The costs of a conversion are the same as new build.
3. How much does a natural swimming pond cost?
Our Hybrid Swimming Ponds start from £75,000, with more complex designs requiring the construction of block walls for swimming zones starting from £95,000. All our projects are bespoke, tailored to the client’s vision, with precise costings provided upon completion of the design plan.
4. How deep should a natural swimming pond be?
Like a conventional swimming pool, most swimming ponds will have a shallow and a deep end. The depth will depend on your design and its intended purpose, ensuring it meets your specific needs. For family swimming ponds, especially those where diving into the deep end is expected, we recommend a depth of at least 1.8 metres.
5. What type of maintenance is required?
Regular maintenance involves cleaning, checking filters, and ensuring water quality. While it’s not completely maintenance-free, it requires significantly less upkeep than a traditional swimming pool, and no chemicals are needed.
