Wildlife pond - Desford, Leicestershire
Here at Ponds by Michael Wheat we love building wildlife ponds. There is something about covering up all the liner that just makes them look so natural. This one in particular we really enjoyed. We first had to install a concrete base for the fantastic summerhouse our client wanted built. This really set the pond off!
In the design that we came up with, we were able to play with the various elements to make sure we got everything right in terms of the size of the pond, decking, bridge and how the summerhouse fits in with the design of the pond.
Once we got the design right and the job was agreed upon, we started on the installation. We laid the base for the summerhouse and then dug out the pond.
Once the pond was dug out, according to the design, we installed the underlay and Firestone 1mm liner. We were then able to start stoning the pond, creating the natural look. At the same time the decking frame was being built around the summerhouse, which would allow our clients to enjoy the pond.
The waterfall was then installed. The return from the filter (which was hidden behind the summerhouse) would give the flow for this. It meant we didn't need an additional pump to create the ideal flow for the steady trickle from the waterfall. The last step was for us to plant up the pond to give it the perfect mix of greenery in the spring, summer, and autumn months.
Project finished and we have created an awesome tranquil area for wildlife, fish and people. A beautiful oasis for any garden!
