Autumn is on its way, now what?
As autumn approaches you will start to see Nature’s brown hues abound. This also means taking extra care of your garden, especially your pond.
The hallmark of Autumn are the falling leaves, but we wouldn’t want these in your pond- putting up a net will keep your pond clean, maintain the pH levels in the water and save your pond equipment from blockage. Fish are less active during this period so feed them wheatgerm (which settles their stomachs better) and try not to scare them- poking them through the net is a BIG no-no! Make sure they also have some cover as the lilies will start to die. Also cut back any plants that have died to get them ready for the summer.
Make sure the filter gets a good clean out, as Winter will bring its own challenges. Our advice is to keep the pump running- modern pumps can handle any issues that the cold brings. This also helps keep the oxygen in the water, which is necessary for the fish to thrive and keep the water clean.
